Short Circular Walk up Moel Hiraddug Starting at Blue Lion Cwm

This is a slightly longer circular route up Dyserth Mountain that takes aroun 1hr 15minutes to complete at a steady pace. You can do it either way around or you could make it ‘linear ‘there and back’ if you want to make it a little quicker.

Take a look at all the different route options here, there is a shorter and longer route – Moel Hiraddug Walks

Where to park for the quick circular walk up Moel Hiraddug

You can park in the Blue Lion (as long as you make sure you pop in for a drink or meal – good idea to book as it’s a busy pub and great food) or you could find somewhere nearby on the road.

Looking back at the start of the path, there are two stiles at either edge of the field, one by the church and one right opposit the car park for the Blue Lion, either is fine, head diagonally right up to the woods.

Pass to the right of this rather spooky looking cave entrance… I’m not sure what this is, please comment if you know!
Look at the water bubbling up in this Well Spring to the right of the path, this is indicated on the map too so it’s a genuine spring – this area is known for these – I’ve read there are 127 wells in the Parish of Dyserth and Cwm (this is the first one I’ve spotted though!)

Continue heading directly towards the hill until you get to a stone stile in the wall at the end of the field.

You’re now on open access land and can wonder where you like up towards the summit, however there are a few clear paths. If you head right you’ll soon find a path crossing which will curve around and up through gorse until it meets another path heading diagonally right until you find the fence stopping you wondering off the quarry edge.

This circular route takes you up the back of Dyserth Mountain past the dystopian looking old quarry – in the distance you can see Craig Fawr (Meliden Mountain) and look to the right (not pictured) you will see another ancient Hillfort Y Gop.

Enjoy the spectacular views at the top of the Hill Fort as you make your way along the top of the ridge away from the quarry.

You’ll reach a path on the very right hand side, right of the small hut and mast, head down this path until you reach a gate. Take the path to the right into a thicket of trees and bushes.

After about 5 minutes heading down this path you will reach a swing gate on your left. The path to the right takes you to the centre of Dyserth. You want to take the swing gate and cross the road over the opposite stile and into a field.

stile Church Wood Cwm
Head over this stile and diaganally through the woods for a few minutes until you reach another stile and can see your starting point at the Blue Lion.

Cross a stile at the top of the field and then descend down to woods on the left. There is a stile on the right hand corner of the woods.

Walk down diagonally to your left through the woods until you reach a small field and can see the church ahead to the left. There is a choice of two stiles (one by the church or one straight ahead) both taking you back onto the road where you’ll be back at the Blue Lion Pub.

Be sure to get a drink or book a tabe to eat at The Blue Lion in Cwm
